4.4 Metal powder sampling.
4.4.1 Sampling requirements. Two independent representative samples, minimum two
kilograms, shall be obtained from each lot of magnesium powder using ASTM E300 or ASTM
B215. Unless otherwise specified, sampling shall be conducted in accordance with Table VI.
When lots comprise three or less containers, all containers in the lot shall be selected. Before
sampling, the contents of each container (selected for sampling) shall be thoroughly blended for
30 minutes by rolling and turning end for end. Failure of any test, by any sample, shall be cause
for rejection of the lot represented.

4.4.2 Sampling for granulation and workmanship. Each container shall be rolled and
tumbled for ten minutes or until the metal powder is completely mixed in the container. Then a
sample of minimum 227 grams shall be removed from the sample with a sampling thief. The
granulation and particle size shall be determined on the sample thus obtained. Each container
shall be individually tested. If any sample fails to comply with the requirements of Figure 1, the
container shall be rejected.
4.4.2.1 Alternate sampling for granulation and workmanship. The composite sample
prepared in accordance with 4.4.1 may be used in lieu of the samples required in 4.4.2. If the
