3.3 Recycled, recovered, or environmentally preferable materials. Recycled, recovered,
or environmentally preferable materials should be used to the maximum extent possible,
provided that the material meets or exceeds the operational and maintenance requirements, and
promotes economically advantageous life cycle costs.

4. VERIFICATION
4.1 Classification of inspection. The inspection requirement specified herein is
classified as conformance inspection.
4.1.1 Conformance inspection. The material shall be subjected to all the following
inspections and tests for acceptance. When specified in the contract (see 6.2), the supplier shall
submit a report giving the results obtained for all inspections and tests performed and certified
statement that the lot meets all the requirements of this specification. Where applicable, blank
determinations shall be run and corrections applied where significant. Safety apparel will be
worn at all times.
4.1.1.1 Purity of reagents. Reagent grade chemicals shall be used in all tests. Unless
otherwise indicated, all reagents shall conform to the specifications of the Committee on
Analytical Reagents of the American Chemical Society, where such specifications are available.
Other grades may be used, provided it is first ascertained that the reagent is of sufficiently high
purity to permit its use without lessening the accuracy of the determination.
4.1.1.2 Purity of water. Unless otherwise indicated, references to water shall be
understood to mean reagent water conforming to type II or III of ASTM D 1193.
4.1.2 Visual inspection. All samples shall be visually inspected to determine
conformance to the workmanship requirements of 3.2.
