COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION CADMIUM OXIDE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description for all federal agencies.
1. SCOPE. This commercial item description (CID) covers one grade of cadmium oxide (CdO)
for use in the preparation of cadmium plating solutions.
2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
2.1 Assay. The cadmium oxide shall be a minimum of 87.0 percent by weight cadmium when tested in accordance with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) titration procedures or equivalent analytical methods.
2.2 Trace metals. The material shall not contain more than 0.050 percent total by weight of silver + lead + tin + copper + mercury + zinc + iron and 0.005 percent total by weight of arsenic + antimony + thallium as determined by dc arc emission spectroscopy or equivalent analysis techniques.
2.3 Volatile material. Approximately 20 grams (g) of the specimen shall be placed in a tared porcelain crucible and weighed to the nearest milligram (mg). The crucible and contents shall
