SODIUM HYDROXIDE, TECHNICAL
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description in preference to Federal Specification
O-S-598
This commercial item description covers Sodium Hydroxide intended for use in various cleaning, washing, and scouring processes, with or without soap, as conditions demand, and where a strongly alkaline material is desired.
Salient characteristics:
Sodium hydroxide shall conform to ASTM D 456= Standard Specification for Caustic Soda (Anhydrous).
The issue of ASTM standard in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with this requirement.
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description, and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards and quality assurance practices, and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Packaging, packing, and marking. The packaging, packing, and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
ASTM standards are available from the American Society for Testing and Materials, 1916 Race Street , Philadelphia, PA 19103.
